Cheap Electric Guitars - How Can I Effectively Care For Them?

After I had owned my very first cheap electric guitar for about 6 months I thought about changing the strings and as I had only been cleaning it with a damp cloth (without using any specific cleaning product) I thought it was be a good time to do it properly. OK, I know I should have done it before, but I was too busy learning! So, after removing the strings, I watched a video on the net about how to clean a guitar. On it the guy used a polish everywhere on his guitar and it really got me thinking as to whether it was really safe to do that, given the materials used during manufacture. I asked myself a couple of questions, such as, is the finish of the guitar effected by the cleaner and should I pay attention to the ingredients contained in the polish?
So off I went to search out the answers and here is what I found. I hope you find them useful:
Nowadays, there are essentially two types of finish that are generally used on guitars: Nitrocellulose and Polyurethane. There are some others, like waterborne finishes, but they aren't very common on common guitars. Nitrocellulose is basically a throw back from the old days, however, a couple of the large names like Fender and also Gibson still use them on some of their vintage reissue guitars. Nitrocellulose doesn't age well. However, Polyurethane is very durable and you can clean it with more abrasive chemicals, although in truth this is not recommended.
If you want your guitar to look the best it possibly can then you should definitely pay attention to what is in the guitar polish. Polish really should actually not be used that frequently. Instead try using some alcohol with a small amount of distilled water on a damp cloth to clean the sweat and grime off the guitar. Then when you completely restring your guitar you can wipe the body and fretboard down too, shine the body up a little with some polish and finish with a healthy smear of mineral oil on the guitar's fretboard.
You should really be paying special attention to your guitar's fretboard. A Rosewood fretboard, for example, will be very resilient but it can also really benefit from the occasional smearing and wiping in of some mineral oil. Mineral oil brings out the beautiful colours in Rosewood fretboards and many other unfinished fretboard woods. A finished fretboard can be treated exactly like the body of your guitar. To clean a fretboard, you can even use common lighter fuel to cut through the gunk and grease. Don't be smoking a cigarette to close or the effect you are looking for may not be achieved!

How to Build a Great Party Playlist Using Song BPM

What is BPM:
BPM stands for Beats Per Minute, it's basically a unit used to measure the tempo of music. When you want to build a great party playlist, you want to make sure that you use BPM to create "waves" of music that help excite and enchant your partiers. How do you do that:
Depending on your party style of course, you want to keep people going up and down in energy level.
First, establish your baseline BPM. Find some songs you think have a good energy level, not too high, and not too low, and use the BPM for these songs as the average BPM for your party playlist.
Now that you know your baseline, you need to determine your BPM range. Find some songs with much higher BPM and much lower BPM and see if they suit the people you're inviting to the party. E.g. if you are hosting a party for senior citizens, you won't want songs with very high BPM because they won't like them and might also die if they try to keep up...:)
You also need to consider the genre of the songs. In most cases, mixed genres work well, but if you are hosting a party for the Hip-Hop awards show, you should probably stick to the party genre and not stray too much into other areas.
Now that you have your baseline and range, your job is easy. You'll need to build your party playlist so that the list cycles through 6 -10 songs going from low BPM range, to baseline BPM, to high BPM range.
After you've built your first cycle, you need to cycle down, but when you do that, make it shorter (3-5 songs) and also don't go back down to the starting BPM you used, go back to a slightly higher BPM.
If you do that over and over during the party, your partiers will slowly be building up their energy levels and depending on how many songs you have, and how long the party is, you'll end up with a super energized crowd by the end of the night, not wanting to go home and wanting to keep going and building more and more energy and fun.
One thing you need to remember is to make sure you don't go too low in energy level so that people don't lose their buzz, or too high in energy level for too long so people don't burn out. This is more of a trial and error thing depending on who the people in the party are and how well you know their taste in music.

Opera Music - The First Operas

Opera is a very old form of musical entertainment. The word opera is from the Italian language and translates to mean work or labor. Classical opera is a musical production that combines a musical score with a libretto (dramatic work or written storyline). An opera combines many different elements including acting, singing, dancing, costumes and music.
The very first opera is often considered to be Dafne. Jacopo Peri composed this production with contributions from Giulio Caccini. Ottavio Rinuccini wrote the libretto. It made its debut as a private event in 1597, in Florence at the Plazzo Corsdi. The concept behind the production was to bring alive the classic Greek tragedy. Many of the early operas take their story lines and ideas from Greek literature. Although, this dramatic work was to begin a completely new form of musical genre, the musical score has virtually disappeared.
Dafne was actually not written for an orchestra but for a much smaller ensemble. It composed for lute, archlute, harpsichord, viol and triple flute. The libretto written was the story of the god Apollo falling deeply in love with the nymph Dafne.
Peri and Rinuccini's showing of Dafne was a huge success and was so well liked that they were asked to write a second work using the same format. Their second joint effort was to a commissioned piece to celebrate the marriage of Henri IV and Marie de Medici. This musical creation was entitled L'Euridice.
L'Euridice was preformed for the first time in 1600. Peri himself preformed the lead role in this production. The story of this opera is once again Greek in origin. It revolves around the god Orpheus and his search for his beloved Euridice. Euridice, who is actually a nymph, was taken to the underworld and Orpheus is trying to get her back.
These two operas were the first time that audiences were introduced to the recitative. There are many times during a performance where a cast member has to convey what they are thinking or feeling to the audience. Rather than trying to set this portion of the production to a song, the actor is given the liberty to sing but uses an almost conversational tone. There is usually music in the background, but the words are not set to it. The other major differences are that in a song there are normally choruses and repeating portions. This does not happen in the recitative. The emphasis here is to move the action of the play forward.
These two productions would herald the beginning of a completely new form of art. Like all art forms, there are many variations of opera. Through the years, opera has changed and evolved greatly. Both the composers and the writers take many liberties to make their productions more appealing to the audience.
