Mannheim Steamroller is a pioneer of the new age music genre, and has continuously been producing albums for the last several decades. I am a huge fan, and have picked out, in my opinion, the 8 best Mannheim Steamroller songs from their Fresh Aire series. You'll notice that a lot of my top picks are mainly Chip Davis' big orchestral songs. Being a composer of symphonic works myself, I guess I'm just partial to full orchestral scores. I also write synthetic music too, so that's probably why Mannheim Steamroller is so appealing to me. You'll also notice that a lot of these appear on the Yellowstone album, which is a great compilation of classical music and Mannheim Steamroller, which also includes my two favorite Interludes: III & VI.

1. Chocolate Fudge- Fresh Aire I, 1975
What's most amazing to me about this song is that it was released in 1975 on vinyl! Synthetic music was in its infancy, and this song still measures up to anything created synthetically today.
2. Toccata- Fresh Aire III, 1979
By far, my most favorite Mannheim Steamroller song of all time! I've always loved songs in 5/4 time (Mars, Mission Impossible, etc.), and this song is no exception. You need to listen to this song with headphones on, the stereo mix of live instruments and synthetics are amazing.
3. G Major Toccata- Fresh Aire IV, 1981
I'm always a sucker for organ toccatas, especially those written by J.S. Bach, and this song is definitely on that list. I love how the organ is mixed with the drum set. You don't hear that every day.
4. Earthrise/Return to the Earth- Fresh Aire V, 1983
I'm counting this as one song, because it appears as one track on the album. For me this song sounds like a soundtrack to an Old Testament story. It has that nice ancient feel to it, with a choir crescendo at the end. I guess I've always loved the songs that start off small and quiet then build to a large and loud ending (the final movements of the Fire bird by Stravinsky & the Pines of Rome by Respighi for example).
5. Come Home to the Sea- Fresh Aire VI, 1986
The structure of this song as it goes from small to huge is brilliant. The sound effects are subtle and not overpowering. The mixture of piano and recorder at the beginning is wonderful, and builds to a powerful full orchestra by the end.
6. Rhodes Suite: Sunrise at Rhodes- Fresh Aire VI, 1986
Another song from the Fresh Aire VI album, which is very underrated and should be intensely more popular. The sounds at the beginning of horses running make this song even more stunning than it already is. It's short, but very well put together.
7. Chakra 7- Fresh Aire 7, 1990
I've always enjoyed songs that have very fast notes in them, and this song takes advantage of that. It represents the Intellect which is a very busy place. The live version of this song with the orchestra backup has to be my favorite, but can only be heard on their PBS special.
8. The Big Bang- Fresh Aire 8, 2000
I'm a big fan of Astronomy, so there's no surprise that I picked this one. This song is mainly sound effects, which is why I like it. It symbolizes the progression of the universe after the Big Bang, moving from sound effects to structured music. I almost picked fractals as my final pick, since it was very cleverly done, but I ultimately picked this one instead.
Whether you agree with my picks or not, there is no disputing that Chip Davis of Mannheim Steamroller is the best contemporary composer of our time.

Southern Gospel Music Origin and History

Southern Gospel music is one of the earliest forms of contemporary music in America. It has a rich history deeply rooted in the very fabric of the South and used as a venue to praise or thank God. Many artists spanning decades of American music history have covered southern gospel music in some way shape or form whether it be its style, its lyrics, or remakes of some of the most popular songs. Its influence is widespread and today is one of the largest music genres in our culture.
The origin
Southern Gospel music is a spinoff of original Gospel music that is a combination of Christian lyrics and forms of American music such as jazz and bluegrass. It originated in the 18th and 19th centuries by slaves that composed and sang these songs amongst themselves as a form of code to communicate with one another. Once the revivalist churches got a hold of it, it began to spread throughout the south from traveling preachers and groups of men singing groups. Then in 1910 in began to take a new form called Southern Gospel. It was primarily in all white Southern churches sung by all male trios in quartets.
The History
In the 1920's southern gospel really began to take off. At this time, there were many of the all male quartets traveling with the Southern preachers at tent revivals and church meetings. It was sort of like today's modern concert tour without all the luxuries. They gave people all over the South a chance to hear Southern Gospel music for the first time. Instruments were then introduced in the 1920's and 1930's with the inclusion of pianos and banjos that gave it an entire new flair. In the late 1930's and into 1940's southern radio stations began recording Gospel artists and then in the 1950's they began producing and distributing records. This had a major influence on young Southern artists such as Elvis Pressley, Johnny Cash and the Blackwood Brothers just to name a few. Little did we know at that time it would create such a seismic shift in American music history.
It's progression through the 1950's and into the 1960's was monumental as southern country and rock 'n roll artists began to infuse their version of Southern Gospel music in to their own style. This had a tremendous impact on how the music genre would take shape over the next 50 years and become what it is today.
Today it is a diverse genre of American music. The 70's 80's and 90's all produced many artists in many different music genres that all became Southern Gospel artists from the Oak Ridge boys to rock 'n roll bands such as striper they all used the origins of Southern Gospel music as their modern-day platform to create their own sound and make their mark. It is an ever-changing and significant piece of American music history that evolves with each passing decade and new generation of artists. Buying concert tickets used to be so uncomplicated. Whenever my favourite bands tipped up at the Newcastle City Hall, I'd join the queue with hundreds of other freezing fans outside the box-office hoping that I wasn't too late to get my eager hands on a couple of tickets. How Healing Music Can Change Your Life Toward Happiness!

Hi my name is Marcey Hamm. What I'm about to share with you has made a difference in my life as well as many others. That difference is being happy. Happiness comes from within us. It does not come from our outer life. And, when a person is happy, it doesn't matter what circumstances may arise in our life, because happiness comes from within us.
There are all kinds of circumstances that can arrive at any moment in our life that may not be pleasant. However, when one is happy, those circumstances don't change the happiness within a person. Again, like I said earlier, that's because happiness comes from within us, not from outside of us.
Anyone can buy a material object and get satisfaction from that object like a car for instance. Many people like different kinds of cars and enjoy driving them. I like being a pilot and fly airplanes. However, having fun and enjoyment are not the same thing as being happy. There is a big difference to me.
Before I had a near death experience from a car wreck, I enjoyed all of these material things. After that near death experience, my perception of life dramatically changed and I had to learn who was Marcey Hamm all over again. I was miserable within myself and it didn't matter what material object I had. Having pleasure and fun was only temporary and I wanted permanent love and happiness within me.
You see, when I died in that car wreck, I experienced a love and happiness that filled my heart and I didn't want it to go away. When I came back to life, it was gone and all I had was the memory of it. I was thankful to have that memory, but I wanted that love and happiness back permanently. My heart ached not having it and I felt real empty inside. I was miserable.
Fortunately, after the car wreck, I was busy overcoming all of my injuries. This kept me mentally and physically occupied. Then after I had recovered from my injuries, something happened to me. I started having these experiences in composing music. I'm not a musician and I can't explain it. However, this experience has given me the love and feeling of happiness that I experienced when I died in that car wreck many years ago. And, from this experience, I know it's possible for anyone to find happiness in their life.
Healing music to me is whatever fills your heart with joy. Everyone has their own spectrum of energy that they resonate to which makes all of us unique. That's why it is so important to find a music that fills your heart with joy. What a simple way to find a road to happiness. If I can find it, anyone can. Words cannot express that level of joy and, the beauty of it is, it's yours forever once you achieve it. There is plenty of music out there, go find the music that fills your heart with joy.
