Save Money Using Mog for Your Music Listening

Save money listening to more music
Over the years, I have ordered music through a variety of services. Amazon MP3 Downloads, iTunes, emusic and most recently, Mog.com.
eMusic anyone?
eMusic has been a great site for finding independent artists, and they offer a subscription model. When I first started with their service, it was $20 per month for 75 downloads. This was a great deal at roughly 27 cents per song. Unfortunately, they have continued to add major labels to their catalog in an effort to increase the selection. As a result the prices have gone up.
Recently, they switched to a currency model, which begs the question, why continue with the subscription platform if you're going to use a price platform within the site? David Harrell 2011 says, "Now, you see the price of each album spelled in dollars and cents, which has a two-fold effect: 1. It reminds you again of what you're actually paying for the album (something you were less likely to think about under the credit system), and 2. It invites direct price comparisons with other digital stores, namely the daily specials and $5 album deals at Amazon MP3." (Harrell, 2011)
For me, the $5 album deals are definitely tempting as they usually seem like a better deal for an album than eMusic's average pricing for albums, which seems to be between $6 and $8 when I look at the albums I've recently "saved for later." eMusic has decided to cater to those that buy individual tracks more than those that buy albums, which is a shame because I feel like their community was more into indie albums than mainstream singles. Perhaps, I only represent a small minority of their customers.
I'm an avid music collector acquiring an average of 805 songs per year or 67 albums if you estimate an average of 12 songs for each album. My eMusic plan is $15.99 per month with a $1.00 bonus each month. This amounts to approximately $192 per year spent on music. If we add 12(1 bonus dollar each month) to 192 and divide by seven, that's 29 albums per year purchased through eMusic or 349 songs.
In contrast, I used to spend $20 per month for 75 songs, which amounts to $240 per year and 1500 songs. It seems my money used to go a lot farther with eMusic.
$5 albums an AmazonMP3
AmazonMP3 has been a great place for music downloads with weekly specials. They have featured 100 albums for $5 each week and these are often different from week to week. Quite often there are great albums for this price that one cannot avoid purchasing. Couple that with the AmazonMP3 daily deals for $3.99, and I've spent a nice chunk of change with AmazonMP3 over the years. They're MP3 store remains one of the best places to get music online for those of us that want to own it.
iTunes paved the way
Before anyone else was in the digital downloads market, Apple paved the way changing music forever with the introduction of the iPod and the iTunes music store. No longer was it necessary to carry a huge book of CDs around. Rather, you could bring your iPod with you and have many more albums than if you were lugging around big CD books. Recently, iTunes has changed the 30 second sampling to 90 seconds, so you can hear more of a song before deciding if you want to purchase it, but iTunes remains the most expensive of the online models with some of the lowest priced albums coming in at $7.99.
Enter Mog
Most recently, I have discovered Mog. For five dollars per month, you have unlimited access to their entire catalog of 9 million songs. If you would like to access this catalog on your iPod touch, iPhone or Android devices, the monthly cost is $10, and it seems highly worth it and gratifying. For $120 per year, you can listen to any of 9 million songs anywhere you are. Suddenly, it doesn't matter if you own the songs because you can access them any time. If you know you're going to spend money on music, and you always want to hear the latest albums, Mog is irresistible!
If you decide you really love something and you want it to be in your library forever, Mog includes download links to AmazonMP3, so you can still choose to purchase an album, but you really don't need to unless you plan on canceling. The truth here is that having access to 9 million songs is truly exciting. If you're a music fanatic, you need to try Mog. The money you save will put a smile on your face, and you'll be listening to way more music than you were listening to while you were buying albums.

Love That Karaoke!

I was first introduced to karaoke back in the early 1990's, when I walked into a bar and someone was on stage singing their heart out. I sat down and began to watch as others went up on stage to sing. Sometimes one person, sometimes two, and sometimes even a group of friends would walk up and sing their favorite songs.
I was a little confused about how they knew the lyrics for all these songs at first. Then I noticed they were viewing a karaoke screen. Then I noticed there was a list of songs you could choose from to sing. Some of them were my favorite of all time songs. I have always loved music, I think most of us do. The thought of being able to get up on stage and sing the same songs as my favorite music artist do was fascinating to me.
My friend started egging me on to get on stage, but I was way too embarrassed, at least on that first trip. I did notice, some of the people got up there were very good, others, not so good. The audience seamed to be very tolerant of the karaoke singers that were not so good. All the karaoke singers received applause.
I found out that this bar was holding karaoke on every Saturday night, and I became a regular. It was so much fun to see these people get up to sing, some of them too drunk, some of them very embarrassed, but oh so brave to try. Some, oh man, some of them were so good, I thought maybe they should be professionals. Well, after a few trips, my inhibitions began to weaken as I had a desire to give karaoke a try.
The karaoke stage is a very frightening place at first. As you walk up and all the eyes in the room are on you, and they all seem to be sizing you up before the karaoke machine even starts. My first song was "Take It To The Limit" by the Eagles. In hind site that was a little ambitious for my first song, as the ooo's were a higher note than I could hold. I almost didn't finish the karaoke song as I was so ashamed of the voice I was hearing in the speakers. I knew my face was red. When I finished singing, the audience was very polite in applauding my attempt at karaoke.
I still had the desire to keep trying, and you know what, I eventually got better. Hearing my voice in the speaker helped me learn how to make adjustments to my song. I also learned to pick songs that were in my range. Outside of church I had never sung in public before. In church you sing as a group, so your voice can get drowned out by others. With karaoke, you don't have that luxury.
I remember then, I kept wishing I had a karaoke machine at home just to practice with. The karaoke machines were very expensive back then. They also had a huge limit as to the number of songs they had in their data banks. Things have improved a lot since then.
Now you can get a karaoke machine very inexpensively. There is another way you can practice karaoke at home without buying a machine too. There are a number of sites that now offer karaoke. Search for your favorite song, then press play, and the lyrics with the shaded tempo show up. Some site offer just the karaoke, while others offer music videos, internet radio, or mp3's along with the karaoke.
So if you love to sing, and you love karaoke like I do, then try practicing at home before you have to get on a stage.

Choosing a Live Band for Your Wedding Engagement or Wedding Reception

Choosing a live band for your wedding engagement party or wedding reception can be daunting. You want to make sure you make the right decision. Other than making sure you find a reputable, professional and experienced wedding band, there are other considerations. Below are a few things a Bride and Groom should consider:
The ambiance of the event. If you want your guests to experience a quiet and relaxed atmosphere then you should discuss that with the band manager. If you want more of a celebratory atmosphere then that should be discussed as well. Your vision of what you want for your event and your guests should be openly discussed with the band manager or the band itself. The band wants to make sure they are a good fit for your event just as badly as you want. Being up front about your expectations will go far in getting you just what you want.
Schedule far in advance. It should be completely understood that bands in high demand get booked far in advance. So you should be prepared to find out that a band is not available for your event if you do not plan far ahead. Once you find out that a band is available then discuss the expectation of when you want the band set up and how many sets you want played. You should go over their play list, ask their usual playing time per set, and if they expect refreshments during their breaks. You should let them know how long you expect them to play. You can't decide after you booked them for two hours that when the party is going great that they will automatically agree to stay another 2 hours for your benefit. Discuss the possibility of overtime. Be practical and book for the exact time you expect.
Make sure you get costs of the band up front. Some charge a set fee, others a per performer fee. The more elaborate the group the more expensive it will be. Ask if there is a possibility of overtime and what that will cost you. Make sure that all costs are in the contract and that you understand what the deposit covers. If there is no contract then don't do business with that band, a true professional band always uses a contract.
For those that want a joyful, celebratory event your guests will enjoy themselves thanks to the band's music and entertainment skills, then you may want to use a Caribbean SteelDrum Band to add flair and festive music to the Wedding event. Most important is choosing a live music band with years of existence, professionalism, and experience in working with wedding planners and Brides this means they know what you are expecting and ready to work to make your event spectacular.

Blues Guitar Tabs: Acoustic Performances You Should Learn

When it comes to blues guitar tabs, acoustic performances are the ones which are the most in demand among guitarists. The question is, where do you find a good blues guitar tablature and how do you proceed to "deciphering" all its contents? After all, learning how to play tabs is vital to your success as a musician, so this article will show you how to use these tabs to your advantage. Here are some useful tips on finding, choosing and learning written pieces of acoustic blues:
1. Find a good acoustic performance that you really love personally. Some guitarists make the mistake of trying to study tabs which they do not really care about! Perhaps somebody told them that it's a great piece of music, but deep inside they don't feel passionate towards that particular track or song. As a result, they lose interest when trying to study the piece. Don't make that mistake. You know you have to feel the blues deep inside you, and you have to be extremely passionate about an acoustic song to be able to play it and improvise along with it.
2. Before studying the tablature, try to play it by ear first. Music should first be in your heart, not on paper! So before spending long hours trying to play a blues guitar tab, try to play it all by ear first. Feel the music. See if you can imitate the basic chords. Memorize the rhythm, riffs and melodic parts of the song. If you do this, you will find that studying the tablature later on will be much easier.
3. Learn the foundational principles underneath the music, not the unique improvisations. A big mistake when trying to learn a song is trying to copy the unique touch of a particular guitar player. For example, the improvisation sequences of Eric Clapton in one of his acoustic performances may not be written note for note on your tablature. Don't focus on imitating Clapton's unique improvisation style. Instead, try to learn the chord structure, chord progression, scales used, effect utilized, bar beat, and all those fundamental stuff.
In your search for great blues guitar tabs, acoustic performances should be at the top of your list. Going electric too soon will not help you learn the basics and the fundamentals of this particular music genre. And don't rely too much on your blues guitar tablature. You heart as a musician should prevail, not the notes and instructions written on a piece of paper.
