Mel Bay - The Most Incredible Jazz Music Guitar Player Ever!

Jazz guitar player Mel Bay was born on February 25, 1913 in the small Ozark Mountain town of Bunker, Missouri. He bought a Sears guitar at the age of 13 and several weeks later played his first "gig." He recalled playing right up until his fingers were raw! Mel took up the tenor banjo shortly thereafter and continued to master both instruments. Throughout his teen years Mel played with a wild assortment of bands and characters in rural Missouri. Perhaps no "gig" was as unusual as the job he landed with, in Mel's own words, "a snake oil salesman." This flamboyant peddler would pull his ostentatious Pierce Arrow automobile, complete with steer horns installed on the grill, into the center of a small, rural town. Mel would sit on the car and play up a storm on the tenor banjo. Soon after a crowd gathered, the peddler took over and started extolling the miracles of his "wonder elixer."
In 1933 Mel Bay moved to St. Louis and commenced his professional career. He performed with a lot of local and traveling bands. Additionally, he landed staff guitar employment on various radio stations. Mel fronted his own trio (piano, bass, guitar) and played steadily for 25 years! He was equally adept on most fretted instruments and played mandolin, uke, Hawaiian guitar, tenor and plectrum banjo professionally.
Whilst Mel was actively pursuing his playing career, he continued to tutor as many as 100 students a week. He decided to commence composing instructional books of jazz guitar tabs and jazz guitar tablatures owing to the problem encountered by guitarists at performing great sounding chord forms in rhythm sections and due to the mediocore note reading ability prevalent amongst guitar performers.
Soon after World War 2 Mel was asked to publish instructional tutorials on guitar for soldiers wanting to learn music under the GI Bill. In 1947 Mel formed his own publishing company and authored his landmark initial book titled "The Orchestral Chord System For Guitar". This book is still in print and continues to be one of the best rhythm guitar chord books available! His "Modern Guitar Method" was authored soon thereafter. For many years Mel traveled from town to town talking to guitar teachers and players and showing them his publications. At one time Mel claims to have known virtually just about every guitar teacher in America on a first name basis! The guitar and Mel Bay's publications caught on in a big way in the 1950's. Things have continued to grow ever since.
Mel also used to retail D'Angelico jazz archtop guitars. At any given time he would have 5 or 6 "lying around the house." Mel played professionally on his D'Angelico New Yorker Model but his favorite guitar was the original Mel Bay Model constructed as a present for him by John D'Angelico. This well-known guitar had all of the main features of the New Yorker but was a "cutaway" model and had a somewhat thinner neck. This same instrument has been pictured on the Mel Bay "Modern Guitar Method" for decades.
Someone once calculated that sales of guitar publications written by Mel Bay have exceeded 25 million copies. When asked, Mel usually explained that he quit counting long ago. Sales of his "Modern Guitar Method" have alone passed the 7 million mark! It is safe to say that Mel Bay is one of the pivotal figures in the world of guitar music and instructional materials in this or any other century!

New Song Ideas and Where to Find Them

Coming up with new song ideas can be one of the most difficult aspects of songwriting. It's not always easy to find something interesting to write a song about. Here are some songwriting tips that will help to get the creative juices flowing!
1. Read a Good Book
Or watch a movie! Anything that is moving or thought-provoking can do the trick. Take the story you just saw or read about and distill it down to its essence. This is a task unto itself and is where the rewrite comes into play. But you will have conquered one of the hardest steps of writing a song: Finding something to write about! You don't even have to write about the whole story. Choose one aspect of it, or describe the nature of the relationship between two of the characters.
2. Are You Playing Around?
Just noodling around with a melody on the guitar or piano can trigger some great song ideas. I always prefer to start with melody anyway, so this is a method that tends to work well for me. To keep things fresh try playing and writing a song in a different tuning or a key you don't normally play in. This will help to spark your creativity and it will keep you excited because those unfamiliar chords will sound so new to you.
3. Good Morning Pages
In Julia Cameron's book The Artist's Way, she suggests adopting the practice of writing three pages of whatever pops into your head right after you wake up each morning. She calls them Morning Pages. You needn't worry about whether or not they make any sense; just write them. When you read over them later you may be surprised at what jumps out at you. I have come up with many good song ideas this way.
4. Whose Line Is It Anyway?
Keep your ears open for interesting phrases when you're out and about. You never know when or where you'll hear one but you'll know it when you do. A great line can practically write a song all by itself. However, don't overlook the common or the cliché. "It's Complicated" and "See You Around" aren't bad song titles.
5. What Lies Beneath
Take some time to ponder the meaning of life. You don't have to get all religious (but you can if that's your thing). Try to catch a glimpse behind the curtain. What's it all about? The so-called "coincidences" we all experience, the extra special connection you share with that particular person. Write a song about these things! The mystery of our existence is a gold mine of great song ideas.
6. Love of My Life
This one's obvious! Writing a song about your significant other is always a great idea. Love songs will always be the most popular of all song ideas. They will never go out of fashion and they will always take on a special meaning for anyone who has ever been in love. Write a song for the special love of your life. Take your time and make it a good one. It will bring you closer and you will have a great love song in your repertoire. I'm going to go and write a song for the special love of my life. It's going to be a good one.
7. Go Shopping
Yes, you read that right! "But what does going shopping have to do with songwriting?" you ask. Nothing! Sometimes you just have to get away and treat yourself to a new pair of shoes. Pamper yourself with a facial. We have to remember that we are people first. We must get out there and live. Go for a hike in the woods and soak in all of the sights and sounds. Go to the local museum and learn something new about how we used to live. The deeper our knowledge and the richer our experiences, the more we have to draw on when writing a song. Don't neglect this last tip. It may be the most important one of all. Happy writing!
I'm Richie Gilbert and I have been passionate about writing songs for many years. I also spend much time in my home recording studio, and am active in pitching my songs to music publishers.

Elvis Presley Songs: The King of Rock and Roll

Who doesn't love Elvis Presley songs? He is the King of Rock and Roll... and the king of gyration. It was his leg shaking, hip thrusting, and his irresistible smile that drew the women to this unforgettable performer.
It was 1956 when Elvis debuted his famous foot shuffling on the Milton Berle show to the sound of "Hound Dog." The viewers were in for the shock of their life. His slow-moving gyration around the microphone stand created a swirl of controversy.
The next day's national media used terms like "vulgar" and "obscene" because of the strong suggestive sexual content. Nearly six decades later, one wonders what kind of world those people lived in back then. Television critics slammed the performance as being "appalling" and lacking any "musical merit."
The New York Times said, "Mr. Presley has no discernible singing ability. His specialty is rhythm songs...with an undistinguished whine...with a beginners aria in the bathtub." They suggested his movements on the stage were more like those of a blonde bombshell on a burlesque runway.
Later he performed on the Ed Sullivan show. It was here that they only allowed a camera shot from the waist up. Sullivan thought Elvis was a decent and fine boy. He remembered him as one of the most pleasant people to be around at the time.
Cosmopolitan magazine wrote in December of 1956 that though he was kind to his parents, sent money to his family, and was unspoiled...he didn't have a free ticket to behave like a sex maniac in public.
Years later he moved on from such harsh remarks. And today he is certainly known to be the first King of Rock and Roll. He is a cultural icon of music around the world. It is estimated he has sold more than a billion singles and albums. And according to RIAA he had 149 top 100 singles in his music career. Not bad for a guy who sung with whine in a bathtub.
Elvis is the only recognized performer to be inducted into four music Halls of Fame. His name can be found in the "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Gospel Music Hall of Fame, and the Rockabilly Hall of Fame." His home at Graceland, is a national historic landmark and his face has adorned a United States postage stamp.
Leonard Bernstein said that Elvis was the greatest cultural force in the twentieth century. He introduced the beat to everything from: music, language, and clothing...which created a social revolution from the 60's forward.
Today young people have no concept of the force of this iconic performer. He laid the ground work for so many contemporary performers. And though his picture adorns so many objects that may detract from the cultural influence he was...he still stands as one of the last centuries world wide cultural changers.
Even in his death Elvis Presley songs are a hot selling commodity... approaching nearly $50 million in earnings annually. Elvis and Elvis Presley songs continue to be a genuine cultural force.

Swimwear Modesty

All swimsuits by a factor of punch, sexy or hot babes roaming the beaches of miniature costumes (which they reveal more hidden links). But the port stuff is not cup of tea for all. It is not always in body size, which most of the questions as you slip into a bathing suit is a quotient of comfort you opened the door to all areas such as the beach. If someone is not well, especially in a swimsuit she shows in body language and facial expressions as well.

However, if you are a baby into the water, then it is not necessary to carry small things. The markets have a variety of ways, and that in different color schemes for every taste style. Women can go either swimwear swimsuits camouflage or leg, covering the entire body is covered and a lot of shame attached to it. These are essentially concealing costumes that cover the body from neck to ankles. Above the normal body-water departure, while the bottom has drawers in dark shades continue to make themselves thinner.
This insurance i [swimsuit is also ideal for people whose skin is sensitive to the salty sea water. And for those who will burn the skin into a nightmare, swim leg is another good option. Still, it is not necessary to put your body to extreme harsh climate of the beach and later regret it.

So what if you can not wear two-piece bikini like Halle Berry or Jenniffer Aniston, at least you can have all the fun in the water.
