I really enjoy playing rock and blues stuff on my electric guitar. Every guitarist needs the equipment that helps him with his style. One of my favourite gear parts, is my Tube king Tk999 overdrive pedal by Ibanez.
That's because it gives a crunchy rockish feel to my riffs and solos. When I turn my pedal on I can rock around the universe. I can play endlessly for hours because I enjoy the sound so much.
Ok, the instrument or the gear of a guitarist comes second. Yes! His technique and feel must be his or her most important qualities. But there are are some days which you do not have the courage or the feel to play. These days everything you've got must help you to get up. Here comes the good equipment.
Ibanez Tube King TK999 is an electric guitarist's must have overdrive pedal. Imagine your favourite guitar players, your kings of rock 'n' roll, your absolutely favourite guitar riff! Yes, the tube king can come really close to these sounds.
A every important feature of the king, is the actual fact, that it contains a real tube. Yes even with a very cheap amplifier, even with a cheap old guitar, the quality if this pedal, can save you in a gig or recording.
I have spent so many hours studying, playing and even watching my guitar. The king was a great company on those moments! Those moments of joy, when your hands are in pain from the hard strings, when your heart beats like crazy, when feel so tired yet so full and content inside! In so many of these moments I had the tube king to keep me company, and help me get the results I wanted from my sound.
When I talk to fellow guitarists, about the King most of them feel the same way with me. Of course not all my death metal friends feel the way i do. If someone likes full distortion sounds at top speed riffs, the I don't think the king does the job for him. Yeah! definitely! Don't even think of tk999 overdrive pedal if you are really into death metal.
To cut a long story short, I would like to conclude by saying one thing. In my opinion the the tube king TK999 overdrive pedal is the best thing I got to get the crunchy sound I like on my riffs and solos.

How to Start a Band and Rock Your Audience (Even If You're Not a Musical Genius)

Who among us hasn't dreamed of starting a band and rocking on a stage in front of hundreds of amped up friends? Starting a band and playing a great gig isn't only for musical geniuses - it's for anyone who wants to have a blast, show others a great time, and best yet - you don't have to be a flawless musician.
The first thing to understand about starting and playing in a band is that playing a gig isn't a concert - it's a SHOW. What's the difference? A concert is musical and focused on what you hear. But a show? Ah, a show is visual, and for entertaining! Audiences will relate to a show much more than just a concert (look at Lady Gaga!). So put aside the musician in you for a second and bring forth the showman!
Now I'm not knocking music by any means - if you're an accomplished musician, you probably already have a following. These tips are for all the other guys out there, who can lay down some basic power chords and rock out some simple beats, and just want to start a band and rock out to an audience.
Now on to the tips. What's the best way to put on a great show with your band? Wait for it... Pop-Punk Covers. Ok, let's let the booing and tomato throwing die down for a second, and let me explain. I don't mean go out and cover Sex Pistols songs, no no. A Pop-Punk Cover is just a cover of a popular song, played in an up-tempo, fun, beat. You can cover almost anything, from punk rock songs (duh), to top 40, to R&B and children's songs if that's your audience!
Here's some specific tips on how to pull this off:

1. Play Popular Covers - This can't be stressed enough! Next time you go to a concert, pay close attention to when the crowd screams the loudest. Is it when they play something obscure off the latest album? No, the crowd goes ballistic when they hear the band's most popular songs (yes, even if they are overplayed on the radio)! If the fans know your song, they will be ten times more engaged. You may be thinking "no duh", but lots of bands pick songs they like, not necessarily songs their _fans_ like. So be careful here - don't cover classic rock if you're playing in a high school band. Make sure you cover songs your specific audience knows.
2. Speed up the Beat - Uptempo songs get people up and jumping. Something in the 150-180 beat per minute range is just about right (Blink 182's All the Small Things, for example, is right around 150 - although in a live version, I recommend speeding it up). If the original song is slow, speed it up - often this really gets audience going because they haven't heard a sped up version before. Keep in mind that if it's too fast, your audience will have a hard time following the beat (try dancing to a really fast punk song!!), too slow and your audience may disengage. 3. Make it Visual - Practice specific visual moves before you go on stage. If you're a good dancer, set some time for a dance solo - the audience will love it. Another common visual technique is to end a song on a timed jump - everyone jumps on the final note (jump timing is usually led by the lead singer). One final easy idea is to have the entire band do something, in sync, to the beat (the stupider and funnier the better!). This can be as easy as jumping in place and turning in a circle - but be sure you're synchronized!! Remember, visual is the key so it's gotta be synchronized. Practice all these moves during band rehearsal, and make sure to agree on exactly when to do them. I definitely recommend easy moves, because you'll have so many other things on your mind during a gig - I learned this one the hard way!
4. Simplify the Transcription - Finally, if you're not an accomplished musician, don't fret (is that a pun?). As many of you may know, many if not most popular songs today are based on very similar chord progressions - often a standard blues progression. Produced songs on an album have all kinds of complex harmonies and picking rhythms, but 90% of popular songs can be simplified to easy power chords, and still very much sound like the original (especially once vocals are added). As an easy example, Green Day's popular "Time of Your Life" is picked with many notes in the intro, but the entire song can easily be played with just 4 power chords. The same applies to drum beats - as much as I hate to say it, the audience is only looking for the drummer to keep the beat. So feel free to simplify beats completely, and for most songs the audience won't likely notice.

Starting and playing in a band is a ton of fun, and these tips should get you started to rockin! Granted, this isn't for the virtuoso superstar musicians who write amazing originals - they don't need to read no stinkin' articles to start a band anyway. But if you're one of the 90% of "just pretty good" musicians out there who want to start a band, be on stage, and rock out with your friends and fans, these tips should really bring the house down!

Getting the Right Band for Your Event

Music is critical to any good party. Having a live band at your party can give it a whole new atmosphere. If you decide to hire a band there is a process you should go through. It takes time to select the right band for any function and you should do some groundwork before rushing out and hiring your little brother's garage band to play your Christmas party.
Firstly when is your event? Most decent bands book out at least a month in advance. You should try to plan the band one to three months ahead. As soon as you select a date and a venue the band should be the next thing on your list.
The second thing you should confirm is the venue allows live music. Some venues have noise limitations. If located in a residential area many venues are required to keep the music to a minimum on week nights or shut down by a certain time. Also check the space where a band would play. How many musicians are able to comfortably perform? Does the venue have a sound system? You should know the restrictions before sourcing a band.
Thirdly decide on the type of party you want. If the event is a black tie sit down dinner a thrash metal band may not fit the mood. The band and the music should be complimentary. Ask friends if they know any good bands or if they used a band at their parties or wedding. Check the paper and the internet. Most bands will advertise.
If you find a band ask to come see them play. Most bands will either organize to play a short set for you or they will arrange for you to see them perform at another event. You should know what you are getting for your money. Take note of the music they play and there interaction with the crowd. Did they play to right music to keep the crowd entertained?
Talk to the band. Tell them what you want. Make a list of the songs you like and compare it with their playlist. Ask them if they know your favorite songs. If there is a special song you want for the event ask them to save it to a special moment. Find out if they will provide the music for break times. If you require the band to dress a certain way be sure to ask them if this is ok. You want the band to add to the atmosphere. If the event is formal ask if the band will wear suits. Be sure to ask as many questions as possible before you decide.
Lastly, make up a contract. This may sound like over kill but if you want to ensure everything runs smoothly it is a good idea to have the details in writing. Agree on a time the band will arrive. Make sure you include time to set up before the guests arrive. You do not want the band doing sound check while your guests stand around waiting for the party to start. Include the dates, venue, price, number of musicians, transport, how many hours the band will play, how many breaks and the duration of breaks, equipment, clothing, food and drinks.

Rockabilly Instrumental Music Played Its Part In Rock And Roll History Too

One of the characteristics that people most often think about when they think of rockabilly music is the famous "hiccupy" vocal styles. Elvis, Buddy Holly, Carl Perkins, and many others used this technique to different extents when recording their seminal rockabilly tracks. But rockabilly music wasn't always about the vocals. Several great rockabilly instrumentals hold their place in rockabilly history as well.

• Bill Justis, "Raunchy": "Raunchy was the first rock and roll instrumental hit and reached #2 on the American charts in 1957. It was recorded by Sam Phillips in his Memphis Recording Service studios and released on his Phillips record label. The record sold over a million copies and set the stage for future rock instrumental hits. The sax sound on this recording is nasty. Nasty but beautiful!
• Link Wray and his Wraymen, "Rumble": Link Wray is one of the icons of 50s instrumental rock and roll and "Rumble" is as evil as it gets. This is actually a very simplistic song and the guitar work is not all that complex, but it has tons of attitude and no one could dare complain! If there is one defining rock and roll instrumental, this might be it.
• Duane Eddy, "Rebel Rouser": Eddy is another of instrumental rock's crowed princes. "Rebel Rouser" is also another signature tune of the genre. Starting with Eddy's tremolo guitar sound seeped in reverb, this one is a precursor to the surf guitar sounds of the 60s. It then launches into another nasty-sounding sax solo and ends off on a key change. You didn't hear too many key changes in rockabilly music and this is one of the most famous!
• Joe Maphis and Larry Collins, "Hurricane": Larry Collins was the impish little-brother half of the Collins kids. Larry and Lorrie were literally just children when they started making hit records. While most of their songs featured Lorrie's vocals, it was often little Larry--a guitar wizard at the ripe old age of 10--who stole the show with his jumping-bean stage antics and blazing guitar work. Country star Joe Maphis--also an amazing guitarist--served as Larry's mentor and they often performed together with their signature double-necked guitars. Sometimes they both played one neck of the same guitar. "Hurricane" is about as wild as it gets and squeezes more notes into less than three minutes than just about any other song I can think of. These guys prove that "shredding" didn't start with Eddie Van Halen!
• Arthur Smith, "Guitar Boogie": For those who insist that rockabilly music started in 1954 with Elvis, I submit this gem from Arthur Smith. Recorded in 1948, this is pretty darned close to rockabilly if you ask me! This is a wonderful guitar-based song with the lead work done on an acoustic guitar instead of the twangy electric guitar featured in most rockabilly songs. If it isn't rockabilly, then it's certainly rockabilly's roots!

Those are just five instrumental tunes that prove that rockabilly wasn't just about the vocals. Rockabilly instrumentation and virtuosity often didn't get its rightful due, maybe because the music evoked such a happy-go-lucky, fun-loving vibe that people forgot to notice just how good those players really were. These rockabilly instrumentals, along with scores of others, give the instrumentalists a chance to show off!
